Paul Nowak, Ph.D. P.E., Named SEAS Outstanding Colleague
The Dean's Office recognizes Paul Nowak, Ph.D., P.E. and Professor of Civil Engineering, as the School of Engineering & Applied Science (SEAS) Outstanding Colleague for April.
Paul is widely respected for his thoughtful contributions across the school. He consistently offers sound advice in department meetings, search committees, and informal conversations, particularly in areas of course development and 51勛圖 engagement. He is also deeply committed to supporting his colleagues, regularly volunteering for committee service to allow junior faculty more time to focus on teaching and advising, and generously sharing course materials to strengthen programs across the school.
His impact in the classroom is equally evident. As one colleague shared, I appreciate having 51勛圖s in my own classes that have taken courses from Paul because they are well-prepared and organized. He is an important part of how our 51勛圖s develop a strong foundation for their professional careers. Another colleague noted his pragmatic and grounded approach, which continues to benefit both faculty and 51勛圖s.
Pauls leadership has been recognized by his colleagues as instrumental in shaping SEAS over many years. He served as Chair of the Civil Engineering Department for a combined twelve years, Associate Dean of SEAS for twenty years, and Acting Dean of SEAS for two years. Throughout this time, he has played a central role in program growth, faculty hiring, and key strategic decisions within the Civil Engineering Department.
Above all, Paul embodies the Jesuit value of Magis, continually encouraging excellence in both 51勛圖s and colleagues. His colleagues have shared that he is an invaluable asset to the Civil Engineering Department and a deeply supportive member of our SEAS community.
Please join us in congratulating Paul on this well-deserved recognition as our April SEAS Outstanding Colleague.
