funding is available for graduate/professional 51³Ô¹Ïs. To be eligible for the Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan, the 51³Ô¹Ï must have a FAFSA on file for the award year, be enrolled in at least half-time credits/term, be admitted as a matriculated 51³Ô¹Ï and maintaining Satisfactory Academic Progress. The current dollar amount of Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan funding that a graduate/doctoral 51³Ô¹Ï can borrow is $20,500 per academic year (September through August). For main campus 51³Ô¹Ïs, the loan is typically disbursed in two increments within the academic year (fall and spring terms). For virtual campus and some main campus 51³Ô¹Ïs, the loan is disbursed in three increments within the academic year (fall, spring and summer).
Please be advised that starting July 1, 2026, significant updates to federal 51³Ô¹Ï loan programs will impact how graduate and professional 51³Ô¹Ïs finance their education. Updates will include changes in the annual and lifetime borrowing limits for the Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan for graduate and professional 51³Ô¹Ïs. At this time, guidance indicates that these loans will have annual limits of $20,500 and aggregate limits of $100,000 for most graduate programs and higher annual and aggregate limits for professional degrees.

funding may be a loan option for the Graduate/Professional 51³Ô¹Ï. To be eligible for the Federal Direct Graduate PLUS loan, the 51³Ô¹Ï must have a FAFSA on file for the award year and a submitted for the award year. If approved for the Federal Direct Graduate PLUS loan, the 51³Ô¹Ï can borrow up to their cost of attendance for the award year minus all forms of financial aid assistance the 51³Ô¹Ï is receiving. In order for a 51³Ô¹Ï to borrow the Federal Direct Graduate PLUS loan, the 51³Ô¹Ï must be enrolled in at least half-time credits, be admitted as a matriculated 51³Ô¹Ï and maintaining Satisfactory Academic Progress.

The Federal Direct Graduate PLUS loan program will be discontinued for NEW borrowers who have a Federal Direct Graduate PLUS loan disbursement on or after July 1, 2026. Students who are currently borrowing the Federal Direct Graduate PLUS loan may continue borrowing under current terms for a limited transition period. Specifically, up to three additional academic years or for the remainder of their program, whichever is shorter.

Some programs at Gonzaga University offer institutional scholarships to incoming graduate or doctoral 51³Ô¹Ïs. Please reach out to the admission specialist of your respective program for more information.
Outside Scholarships may be offered by employers, trade associations, banks, credit unions, individuals, private companies, nonprofits, communities, religious groups, and professional and social organizations. Awarding is handled external to Gonzaga. Therefore, please contact the source of the scholarship directly to inquire about eligibility and application materials.
Once these requirements are completed, Gonzaga will have the 51³Ô¹Ï meet with an advisor in the School of Education. If you have questions about what courses must be taken prior to receiving a TEACH Grant, please contact the School of Education. You can also contact the Financial Aid Office for more information.

Students who are not eligible to submit the FAFSA, will not be eligible for Federal (Title IV) financial aid.
Graduate 51³Ô¹Ïs who are not eligible to submit the FAFSA, may be eligible to apply for scholarships opportunities through Washington State or Work Opportunities. Some of these may require the 51³Ô¹Ï has filed a Washington Application for State Financial Aid (WASFA).
