51³Ô¹Ï Endowments

Without your generous contributions, I wouldn't be able to study at a school that brings out the best in me! I truly value my education here on campus, and am excited to work as a teacher in the future to continue to cultivate lifelong learning in both myself and others.

Strengthening the University with a permanent impact

You can support annual funds and endowed funds with gifts.

Annual funds are for immediate use.

are invested and allowed to grow. This way, the original gift is not spent; instead, only its growth is used.

There are benefits to both types of gifts. For example, a gift to an annual scholarship fund would mean that the entire total of the donation could be awarded right away to 51³Ô¹Ïs in need. A gift that establishes an endowed scholarship fund would be invested and then a percentage of the growth could be awarded as a scholarship each year forever.

A strong endowment reduces Gonzaga’s reliance on tuition and eases cost burdens on parents and 51³Ô¹Ïs.

Endowments are funds that live on forever. The original gift is invested in way that provides income that benefits 51³Ô¹Ïs while honoring donor intent and ensuring perpetual growth of the fund. Only a percentage of the earnings are spent each year, ensuring the original gift lasts forever.

Gonzaga’s endowment funding areas include:

  • Scholarships
  • Academic and Research Awards
  • Internships
  • Retreats/Christian Life Communities/Service Projects
  • Innovation Funds
  • Facilities Support
Equation: Long-term investment return percentage minus inflation equals percent spending rate

What is an Endowment?

  • An endowment is a long-term portfolio invested to obtain a return (after fees) sufficient to provide an annual spending amount plus inflation (approximately 7.0%).
  • Endowments are perpetual in nature and represent an institutional commitment to support the donor's intended purpose.
  • The investments of endowed funds are diversified among asset classes that may perform differently in various market conditions.

Scholarships are so important to me that 'thank you' can hardly express the amount of gratitude I have for the generous opportunities GU has given me. Entering my 4th year here at Gonzaga, I am consistently reminded of every blessings that Gonzaga has brought into my life in the forms of lifelong friends, a great education and so much growth outside the classroom. None of this would be possible without the generosity of donors.

I’m a first-generation college 51³Ô¹Ï from Montana. Gonzaga has always been my dream school for as long as I can remember. When I first visited campus, I immediately knew it was the place I wanted to be. The community was so amazing, and everyone was so helpful. I’m so thankful for scholarships because without them, I wouldn’t be here. They've helped make something I thought was impossible happen.

It was always kind of a running joke in my family that I’d end up at Gonzaga since both of my parents went here. And sure enough, that’s exactly what happened. But looking back, the more meaningful question isn’t why I came. It’s why I chose to stay. Starting out was tough. Leaving home for the first time and figuring things out on my own wasn’t easy. But as time went on, I found my people. Friends who made me feel at home and a community that welcomed me in. That made all the difference, and it’s why I came back for my sophomore year. Now I honestly can’t picture myself anywhere else. Scholarships have been a huge part of making this experience possible. I’m incredibly thankful for the support. They’ve helped me stay here and grow in ways I never imagined. Without them, being at Gonzaga would be a lot harder, and I know my life wouldn’t be the same. I’m happier here, and I’m grateful every day for the chance to be part of this place.
