Engineering is as much about people and projects as it is about technical design. Kellen Wang, named the 2026 Outstanding Senior in Engineering Management, is building a path towards guiding teams through the complexities of engineering projects.

As co-president of the American Society for Engineering Management (ASEM), Wang has been a visible leader on campus, organizing an internship opportunity session and a workshop on resumes and interview skills for his peers.

Faculty members in the engineering management program highlighted Wang’s commitment to service, specifically noting a STEM outreach event he organized at Liberty Lake Elementary School. They also recognized his competitive drive as a member of the ASEM Case Competition team.

A Global Perspective

While his leadership was felt locally, Wang’s most impactful personal growth happened overseas. He spent a sophomore semester with Gonzaga In Florence, an experience he says fundamentally changed his outlook.

"I’m proud of my time studying abroad in Florence, Italy, where I stepped outside of my comfort zone and experienced a slice of life in a new country," Wang said. "This experience allowed me to gain a new perspective, meet new people, learn about different cultures, and grow as a person."

He plans to continue that personal growth with some travel after graduation.

Leading Impactful Projects

Wang credits his coursework and his senior design project with helping him develop a balance of teamwork and technical mastery.

"My long-term goal is to lead engineering teams on impactful projects while continuing to learn every day," Wang said. "My coursework in engineering management and my senior design project have helped me develop the technical, teamwork, and leadership skills needed for the future."

His summer plans include completing an internship at Avista. This Fall, Wang will return to Gonzaga to pursue a Master of Business Administration. The B.S. engineering management program includes a business minor that prepares its graduates to complete the M.B.A. in one calendar year.

"I am honored that I was chosen for this recognition," he said.
