The past semester of was shaped by moments of connection that brought Gonzaga 51³Ô¹Ïs and the Northeast Spokane community together in meaningful ways. From welcoming youth to campus through the Catalyst College Immersion Program, to gathering neighbors at community events, these photos reflect a semester rooted in relationship-building and shared experience. Together, they offer a snapshot of how Opportunity Northeast continued to create spaces for belonging, growth, and opportunity beyond the classroom.
Highlights from 2025
Community partners tabling at the Fall Service Fair on Bulldog Alley. We were joined by over 50 community non-profit and GU groups sharing about their work. A 51³Ô¹Ï enjoys the crowd-favorite petting zoo at the Fall Welcome & Engagement Fair. Students enjoy games at the Logan Block Party at Mission Park. Held in the heart of the Logan neighborhood at Mission Park, the event welcomed over 600 attendees, including 51³Ô¹Ïs, faculty, staff, community partners, and longtime residents. Students enjoying face painting at the 2025 Logan Block Party. This year’s event also included live music, a Kona Ice Truck, lawn games, and local community resource tables. Yasuhara Middle School youth play dodgeball with Gonzaga 51³Ô¹Ï mentors during weekly G.A.M.E. programming. Gonzaga Athletes Mentoring for Excellence (G.A.M.E.) is a group mentoring program that pairs GU 51³Ô¹Ïs with middle school youth, using group activities, athletics, and reflection to build relationships and support skill development. Student Youth Program Leaders volunteer at Winter Wonderland, a community event welcoming Northeast youth and families supported by the Center for Community Engagement’s (CCE) youth programs, including Campus Kids, Connections, and SPARKS. Student volunteers picking up trash at Mission Park as part of the Inauguration Service Project. Essential Skills participants doing mock interviews as part of a six-week series that continues to significantly impact the lives of unemployed and underemployed women in Northeast Spokane. As a collaborative effort between Gonzaga University, The ZONE housed at the Northeast Community Center, and Catholic Charities of Eastern Washington (CCEW) this program has provided participants with the tools and confidence to pursue new career and educational opportunities since 2021.
