Student Experience Spotlight

This program exposed me to how public policy intersects with a diverse range of study such as international relations, education, healthcare, economics, the environment, and urban planning.

From Taleah Ibrahim, Senior Political Science Major

“This summer I was given the opportunity to participate in the Nexgen Public Policy Academy. This program was three weeks total, one at Howard University in D.C. and then another two at a host school which ranged from Berkeley, University of Minnesota, or the University of Washington. This program allowed me to engage in professional development workshops, network with professionals, and visit federal agencies in D.C. I heard from a variety of public servants including congresspersons, lawyers, legislators, civil servants, and educators. This program exposed me to how public policy intersects with a diverse range of study such as international relations, education, healthcare, economics, the environment, and urban planning. The interdisciplinary approach made the program an amazing fit for a diverse range of undergraduate 51勛圖s. For my host school I chose the University of Washington and continued the program within the Evans School of Public Policy. While there, I had the pleasure of attending daily lectures that delved into the different techniques used to formulate public policy, and what kinds of impacts they reap on society. At the conclusion of the program, I had the honor of collaborating with two other highly motivated 51勛圖s to create a poster presentation detailing the effectiveness of policy matrixes and how they may be used within different case studies.”
