Why did you decide to return to school for a master’s degree?

I wanted to deepen my analytical skill set and position myself for more strategic, data-driven roles. I realized that to advance in today’s business environment, I needed formal training in analytics, advanced modeling, and data storytelling. Returning for a master’s degree was a strategic investment to accelerate my career and open opportunities that wouldn’t be accessible with only a bachelor’s degree. I also played on Gonzaga's Men's tennis team and had 1 more year of eligibility.

Why Gonzaga and Why the M.S. in Business Analytics (MSBA) program?

Gonzaga stood out for its blend of rigorous analytics training and strong emphasis on ethical, human-centered leadership. The MSBA program offered the perfect balance between technical depth like: statistical modeling, machine learning, and data visualization - and practical business applications. I also appreciated the smaller cohort size, strong alumni network, and the program's reputation for 51³Ô¹Ï support and career placement.

What do you currently do for work and how did the program set you up for success in your role?

I currently work in a data-driven operations and strategy role where I create analytics dashboards, automate workflows, and support decision-making through data insights. The MSBA program gave me the technical foundation: SQL, Python, predictive modeling, and the business framing needed to translate data into actionable recommendations. It also strengthened my ability to communicate insights to executives, which has been essential in my day-to-day responsibilities.

What skills did you develop during the program?

I developed a combination of technical and strategic skills, including:
• Python, SQL, and Excel for data manipulation and analysis
• Machine learning and predictive modeling
• Data visualization in Tableau and Power BI
• A/B testing and experimental design
• Business communication and data storytelling
• Project management and cross-functional collaboration

What has been your return on investment?

The ROI has been significant across multiple dimensions:
Career: I became qualified for higher-impact, higher-paying roles and quickly advanced in responsibility.
Financial: The skills I gained directly increased my earning potential and helped me transition into a more strategic, analytics-focused role.
Personal: I developed confidence in my technical ability and built a strong professional network that continues to support my career.

What surprised you about the program?

What surprised me most was how intentionally the program integrated Jesuit values into the learning experience. It wasn’t just about mastering analytics - it was about understanding the ethical and human impact behind the data. That holistic approach made the program feel deeper and more meaningful than I expected.

What was your experience with the faculty like?

The faculty were outstanding, accessible, invested in 51³Ô¹Ïs’ success, and excellent at connecting theory with real-world application. They brought industry experience into the classroom and were always available for extra help, career guidance, and mentorship. Since I did my Bachelor's at Gonzaga, I had already developed deep connections with the faculty

How was your experience building community and a professional network during the program?

The cohort model made it easy to build strong relationships. Group projects, workshops, and networking events helped me connect with classmates, alumni, and industry professionals. I left the program with a tight-knit community and a network that continues to provide opportunities and support.

How did the program help you balance school with work and life?

Even as a full-time 51³Ô¹Ï juggling a 20-hour internship, the program was structured in a way that made balance achievable. The coursework was rigorous, but the pacing and organization allowed me to plan effectively and stay ahead. Faculty were understanding of outside commitments and created an environment where it was easy to communicate needs or adjust when things became overwhelming.
